The actors portraying Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube explain just how big “Straight Outta Compton” is.

Straight Outta Compton will be viewable later this week and since, the cast has been making its press rounds to give their take on both the group and its legacy.

Recently speaking with HipHopDX Features Editor Andre Grant, the trio representing Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube in the film explained how the biopic is much bigger than even fans think it is.

“This movie is bigger than everyone think and it’s beyond rap,” O’Shea Jackson Jr (the actor portraying Ice Cube) proclaimed via a segment of today’s (August 11) DX Daily. “This a real life movie. They call him [Dr. Dre], they call him Eazy-E, and [Ice] Cube as people know but he played Andre in the movie, he playing Eric and I’m O’Shea. It’s such a real life movie and to see it start to build this way. To see people watch it with the crowd and them get the jokes you put in there and to get the vision our director F. Gary Grey, his vision just coming to the light. It’s amazing right now.”

The cast also explained how excited they were to work with director F. Gary Gray.

“Being in a movie that F. Gary Grey directed, all that plus you’re about to say everything that’s never been said in that form. It’s crazy,” Jason Mitchell (who plays Eazy-E in the film) said.

Straight Outta Compton is slated to hit theaters this Friday (August 14). Dr. Dre recently released his third solo studio album, Compton.
