Special Ed also says it now matters what label rappers are on and who shot their videos.

Special Ed has been around Hip Hop for a long time so anything he has to say about its evolution is worth hearing.

Recently sitting down with HipHopDX News Editor Soren Baker, the Brooklyn emcee talked about how the credit, when it comes to artists, has shifted some from the emcee and more toward the DJ or producer.

“Now they’re making it more about who you worked with,” he said via a segment of today’s (November 10) DX Daily. “They’re making it more about the producer or more about the DJ or more about the person in a certain position rather than be about the artist. It used to be about the artist and whatever they represented.”

Special Ed continued by expanding on other elements fans, media and labels focus on aside from the rapper.

“Now it’s about what label you on, who’s distributing you, who shot your video, who produced the song,” he explained. “So that’s the difference between now and then. The producer’s the hot shit. That’s just how it’s going these days.”
