A-Plus (born Adam Carter) is an influential American rapper, producer, and founding member of the legendary Oakland, California-based underground hip-hop group Souls of Mischief. Through his work with the group, he is also a central figure in the sprawling, eight-person alternative hip-hop collective known as Hieroglyphics.Born in Denver to Jamaican immigrants, he moved to Oakland at age five, where he grew up alongside future hip-hop icons like Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, and Tajai. His father inspired his moniker by commenting on the stellar grades he brought home.
