New York “backpack” rap pioneers Black Moon have reemerged from the underground with their first new song and video in 16 years.

Titled “Creep Wit Me,” the track serves as the lead single from their upcoming fourth album, Rise of da Moon which is expected to arrive before Labor Day.

The song’s title and chorus interpolates Snoop Dogg’s memorable opening lyric from the 1991 collaborative single “Deep Cover (187)” featuring Dr. Dre.

The Brooklyn trio — Buckshot, DJ Evil Dee and 5 FT — dropped its last song and video “Stay Real” in 2003. It was taken from Total Eclipse, their third album and follow-up to 1999’s War Zone.

In an interview with Complex, DJ Evil Dee confirmed Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man, Heltah Skeltah’s Rockness Monstah and Smif-N-Wessun will be featured on the new album.

“It was so dope working with my crew on this album,” Evil Dee said. “Unlike a lot of albums today, we recorded the album together in the same studio. Mr. Walt and I came with our Beatminerz sound (heavy bass and drums) representing that boom bap. [Buckshot and 5 ft] came with the ill rhymes.

“Mixing the album was so dope. We wanted to bring back it back to the ’90s with our analog, digital mixing process. Rise of da Moon represents Black Moon’s legacy to the fullest.”

Last year, Black Moon celebrated the 25th anniversary of its classic 1993 debut album, Enta Da Stage.

Their label, Duck Down Music, dropped Smif-N-Wessun’s The All in January. It boasted production from 9th Wonder and The Soul Council.
