Dr. Dre Starring In “Vital Signs” Scripted Drama From Apple

February 14th, 2016

Dr. Dre is starring in Vital Signs, a scripted drama from Apple, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It marks Apple’s first foray into original television programming.

The rapper-producer is also executive producing the six-episode drama, which is semi-autobiographical and features Dr. Dre’s character focusing on a different emotion in each episode. This week, an orgy scene was filmed at a mansion in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills.

Longtime Dr. Dre collaborator Paul Hunter is directing and producing Vital Signs, which is being executive produced and written by Robert Munic, who filled the same roles with Empire.

Although Dr. Dre is best known for his work as a producer, rapper and executive, he also has several noteworthy acting credits. The Compton, California artist appeared with Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith in Set It Off in 1996 and with Denzel Washington and Training Day in 2001.

Dr. Dre reportedly pitched the idea for Vital Signs to partner Jimmy Iovine. The pair sold their Beats Electronics to Apple for a reported $3 billion in 2014 and have worked together since the early 1990s while Dr. Dre was with Death Row Records and Iovine was at Interscope Records.

Vital Signs is the only scripted original program on Apple’s slate.
